School Cruise 1963
When attending Whinney Hill Secondary Modern School I went on a School Cruise on MS Dunera in May 1963. We went by train from Durham City direct to the ship lying in dock at Liverpool.
We were due to pick up extra passengers from Belfast in Bangor Bay, but the swell was too high for safe transfer from a tug to the ship, so we lost a day while we called in at Dublin Port to collect the passengers.
We visited Vigo in Spain then we were due to visit Gibraltar, but there was a southerly gale blowing and the sea was too rough to dock so we docked at the more sheltered Tangier.
On the way home we spent a day in Lisbon then returned to the UK where we disembarked at Princes Pier at Greenock where several trains were waiting for us.
Was anyone else on that cruise?
